About Judge Laseter
Judge Laseter is a proud fifth generation Texan and experienced trial lawyer, former local small business owner, and your 401st District Court Judge.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baylor University, majoring in Psychology and with a minor in Criminal Justice. Judge Laseter attended Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock on full scholarship, where she honed her skills in trial advocacy and participated in Board of Barristers competitions with her now-husband, Jason. After graduating cum laude from Tech Law (Wreck ‘Em!), Kim was hired as a prosecutor in the Denton County District Attorney’s Office. For seven years, Kim worked for the Denton D.A., primarily prosecuting child abuse cases and cases involving family violence.
In 2016, Kim took a role in the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, where she was a chief felony prosecutor. Kim’s leadership during her time at the Collin County D.A.’s Office included her being named as chief of the Misdemeanor Trial Division, chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, and Mental Health Chief. She assisted in development of Texas’ first DA-led opioid treatment diversion program and also led several community initiatives including Cut it Out, which included training salon professionals to recognize, respond and refer clients suffering from domestic violence for help.
After her time in prosecution, Kim owned and operated her own small law firm. Before taking the bench, she gained experience litigating over 100 different jury trials to verdict, ranging in matters from Class C misdemeanors to murder cases. Kim’s trial record also includes her work as a defense attorney in numerous first degree felony cases and on cases through the Collin County Adult Mental Health Court.
Kim and her husband, Jason, have been married for 19 years and they have three children together. Kim has lived in Collin County for nearly two decades. Kim is a Christian and a proud conservative Republican.
